Half Full

A homeless man told me today that he loves me. He said these exact words, “Can you spare some change?” (to which I shook my head no and said sorry)… “I love you.”

And that got me thinking about something that’s been on my mind anyhow, which is the idea of perception and reality. This man has little by way of material possessions, and one can pretty safely speculate that luck is not on his side. Yet, even out there in the rain, begging strangers for change, he mustered a smile and kind words. He doesn’t love me, of course, but he’s putting the intention of love out in the world, and the way I see it, that can only make his life better. He made my day better, that’s for sure.
