So I finally did it. The sun was shining so beautifully that I couldn’t resist. I had thought up until today, when I joined “those people,” that it was just unnatural. These things require sand. But then there I was in plain sight of passersby, on the grass laid out on my towel in the park, in a… bikini. Now, a few years ago, I probably would have thought nothing of this, but with an extra five pounds, plus two years of paleness, I was feeling a bit self-conscious. So I did what I do when I know I have to face a cold pool of water – I took the plunge as quickly as possible. And once I was out there, on display for every jogger, dog-walker, stroller-pusher, and vagabond to see, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It was pleasant in fact. The soft grass was lovely to lay on, I got a bit of much-needed color and vitamin D, and I had a great book to keep my eyes off of anyone whose eyes might have been on me. I think I’ll do it again tomorrow!
